Summer Camp 2023 Descriptions

All camps are for ages 6-12 unless otherwise noted.

Play, Play, Play All Day! - June 26-30

School's out, let's have some fun! Join us for good 'ol fashioned summer fun, swimming in the pool, lying in the sun, playing games, telling stories, reading, singing, and making art. With Janice Walrafen.

Forest Magic - July  3-7 - This week we will explore the woods and immerse ourselves in the world of magical creatures including fairies, nymphs, and gnomes. We’ll build  gnome homes, create  fairy friends, and learn about the plants, animals, and trees around us. We will share stories, songs, and myths about our magical friends and begin to explore the life cycle of plants and seeds. With Damarah Barr-Smith. 

Spanish Language and Hispanic Culture Immersion Camp - July 10-14 - Ages 7 to 13. Come immerse yourself in the Spanish language and experience some traditions from Latin American countries. We’ll practice Spanish phrases and learn how to follow directions in Spanish, play board and card games as well as “Capture the Flag” and your favorite outdoor games! We’ll also swim, do art projects, listen to and read kids’ books in Spanish. And of course, we’ll learn some kids’ songs and some salsa dance moves! Herb Camp I: The Mandala of Culinary Herbs - July 17-21 - Our focus at this herb camp is "Food as Medicine" and the six flavors. We will experience and explore the gardens, fields, meadows, and forest ecosystems nearby, and awaken our senses by observing, identifying, and building connections to the plant kingdom. The days will include a variation of nature crafts, water play, cooperative games, botanical art and songs, plant ID walks and yoga, tea time, foraging, and making herbal medicine into child (and family) friendly forms. Teachings are grounded in safety and respect. Come discover the magic of herbs! With Adrienne Allison and Joann Darling.

Rock & Roll week 1 - July  24 - 28 - Explore the rich cultural heritage and rockin’ tunes for the exciting era, from the earliest African roots through the psychedelic 60s, to the latest contemporary sounds, fusing influences of country, folk, jazz, rhythm and blues. Youth have an opportunity to try out the different band instruments and are welcome to bring their own to create music with us. Camp includes art projects too! This is a one week camp with a Rock ‘n Roll show on Friday afternoon. With Janice Walrafen and Jason Mallery.

Rock & Roll week 2 - July 31-Aug 4 - Week 2 continues the jam! Pirates! - August 14-18 - Ahoy, mateys! This week we’ll become pirates, creating our pirate alter-egos, creating costumes, and making treasure maps. We’ll have scavenger hunts, pirate games, and learn the dramatic history of real-world pirates. With Damarah Barr-Smith.

Astronaut Camp - August 21-25 - This week we’ll explore the cosmos! Come learn about the phases of the moon, the reason for the sun, what the heck gravity is, and conduct some other fun experiments along the way. Each camper will be given an observation notebook and a chance to become a real scientist! With Damarah Barr-Smith.
